SPEED POTENTIAL

The National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE)  has developed a test to predict speed potential.

Have a coach test you in the 40-yard dash from a stationary start using surgical tubing to tow you as fast as possible.  Connect the belt securely around your waist, with the other belt attached to a partner.  With your partner standing 10 yards in front of the finish line, back up and stretch the tubing exactly 30 yards until you reach the starting line; assume a track stance.  The timer at the finish line starts the watch on your first muscular movement and stops it when you come cross the finish line.  After you sprint 5 yards, your partner sprints as fast as possible away from you to give you additional pull throughout the  test.  Record your score on the test score sheet.  Decreasing your time .3 to .4 of a second provides an estimate of what you will be capable of after several months of training.
