Yearly Training Plan
Conditioning Phase (September to January). This phase would emphasize submaximal forms of training in order to develop a general conditioning foundation for more intensive training.
Stress Adaption Phase (January to April). A period of more intense training characterized by stress adaptation and progressively intensified workloads. This is the phase in which skill learning and development take place.
Competition or Peaking Phase (April to June). This training phase emphasizes quality training tempered by performance evaluations. Rest and recovery are utilized in conjunction with selected competitive tests designed to bring the athlete to their peak performance level.
Detraining Phase (July to August). This recovery phase of training is characterized by "active rest," that is, informal types if conditioning or training. Competitive efforts are de-emphasized during this phase and athletes may even take a complete break from training during this phase by engaging in recreational sports.
