Factor Effecting Water Loss

These include temperature, humidity, clothing, conditioning/training, and fluid balance.

  1. The higher the temperature, the more the athlete sweats.

  2. The higher the humidity, the more the athlete sweats, but with reduced cooling efficiency.

  3. Clothing that traps sweat against the skin (i.e. does not breathe) has a reduced cooling efficiency, so it forces the athlete to sweat more.

  4. Well-conditioned athletes can actually seat more, sop they have a better cooling potential.

  5. The better the fluid balance, the more seat potential there is.
