Jodie Mayes, 9th Grade, Fayetteville, Arkansas went to USATF Jr. National Championships in California and competed in the Pole Vault last weekend. She was the only 9th grader against girls as old as college sophomores. The opening height was 11' 5 3/4". She had never started at this high for opening height and she made it on her third attempt. The second bar was at 12' 1 1/2", which would've been a PR for her. She made 3 very good attempts and blew through her pole on the last attempt. She ended up finishing 15th out of 31! Not bad for her first BIG meet against the best in the US being so young! We were very proud of her considering many didn't clear opening height.
