The New England Crew at the 2003 York Beach Vault
VaultnGus craves your e-mail as YOU help make this site better. Anything and everything - questions, comments, suggestions, meet results, stories, corrections, inspirations, humor, pictures, strange stuff - anything! Send it all to VaultnGus@vaultworld.com . We do try to answer each and every e-mail sent to the PVWAtG but as we are working folk time is in short supply. Please be patient *Caveat Emptor* - if you send me something that is NOT intended for publication in this website or the PVWAtG Newsletter then please note it by prefacing the subject header with "NOT FOR PRINT" as I have NO common sense whatsoever...

I have attempted to reorganize this site in order to make it easier for y'all to navigate. The PV News link will take you to a page with links to the latest news and articles from web sources around the world and once Jeremy figures out how to make his PoleVaultPit news service available to us ('cuz we don't have server side includes here...) we'll have the latest posts to his site available here too. The PV Data section is the bread and butter of the PVWAtG - all the lists you can imagine - World, US, Collegiate (DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, JC, Regional), Scholastic, New England, Massachusetts and even good ol' New York Section V (Penfield HS Class of '88 Go Chiefs... I mean Patriots!) from 1995-2004. And these lists are deep - last year alone we had over 2600 scholastic ladies alone! It also contains the PVWAtG Newsletter archives - over 300 issues online. The PV Marks section will focus on a select few results that we found to be awesome or interesting for any number of reasons. If you want a summarized list of the latest happenings over at our friends' sites check out the PV Web section. The PV Events section will deal mainly with the larger championship events and pole vault meetings. The PV Cool section is a work in progress. Yes there are other things in the world that are cool besides the vault. Not a huge amount but a relatively significant sum. Funny sites, good tunes, interesting pictures, thought provoking posts - as I come across these things I'll post 'em there. The PV Remote section is another pride and joy. It's a link to the 'Pole Vault Remote Control' - an exhaustive set of pole vault related links from resutls sites, athletes own homepages, training manuals, safety links - anything and everything related to the pole vault. You name it it's there. Finally the Site Updates section is just what it says it is - updates to the site. Whenever something gets fixed, changed, updated etc. it'll be noted here...

An older, wiser VaultnGus at the 2002 Beach Vault
The Pole Vault World According to Gus was started way back when in the winter of 1994 when I was an eager young grad student at Boston College preparing for a life as a forensic chemist. The World Wide Web as we know it was in its infancy and I was assigned the responsibility of creating the Boston College Chemistry Department web site. These were primitive times folks - the early web browsers could not handle images so all sites were text-only. Despite these limitations, this project whetted my appetite to do something informative about the sport I love so much. I searched the web for pole vault resources and found to my amazement that there were none at all (I shouldn't have been too suprised I guess as there wasn't much of anything except a bunch of "Hello World!" pages) Well right then and there I decided to rectify this horrific situation. A few hours of HTML compilation, some rudimentary formatting and a couple of transcribed Track and Field News articles and voila! The first incarnation of the Pole Vault World According to Gus was born

It remained secretly hidden amongst all the organic synthesis class notes and department faculty meeting minutes where it began to nuture and grow at an alarming rate. It eventually took over nearly the entire bandwidth of the entire chemistry server output. At this point the faculty began to take note and they were not pleased. The PVWAtG was evicted from it's home. Fortunately though the fine folks at Vaultworld.com offered space to VaultnGus and his obsessions and it has remained there to this day...

The Pole Vault World According to Gus E-Mail Newsletter came about as folks started writing in to add the site with results, stories and other cool musings. I decided to repay those folks by mailing out the weekly updates to the site along with newsworthy articles. That grew into the bimonthly-or-so 20-30 page behemoth that gets published whenever I get a break. It's been quite a hoot developing this site over the last 9 years. Unfortunately being a full-time working dude and 4 season coach just seems to eat more and more time out of my schedule. Luckilly, several other obsessed and enthusiastic souls have been picking up the slack. A selection of what is available out there can be seen in the "Friends of the PVWAtG" section to your left. A much more comprehensive selection can be found at the Pole Vault Remote Control

VaultnGus and the PVWAtG would not be where it was today were it not for the help of oh so many people. I hesitate to start listing them here as I know I'm gonna forget a bunch but here goes...
