Well you did move up 6" more in length and 5 lbs that means the pole weighs a few ounces more in carry weight. It is also about 12lbs stiffer at the same grip on the smaller pole. It just feels differrent, but if it was easy then you would not be able to go higher.
After you have a few pole runs I am sure the step will fall in place and you will feel the carry.
Try a little higher carry angle to help with the differrent feel.
Also try this it is used in Rick Fosters clinics in Ca.and Hawaii
Hold the pole at the straightest horizontal in front of you like as if your are ready to lower the pole to the box. Have a friend place a one dollar bill right on and over the pole tip!
See if you feel it,you will be surprise how a light thing like that will increase the pole carry.
OH and when you are done with the test Send the dollar bill to the US Olympic Committee as a donation.
