If the pole strikes the standard it is usually right in that area (top 3 feet) and will break on any subsequent vault after that. That is were the pole starts getting thinner walled over the entire structure.
Or if you sit on the pole at the plant and it is time to move to a stiffer pole then you will over stress the pole.
I remember back in the olden days (30 years ago) when I got real comfortable with a pole that was when I needed to move to a stiffer one. CONFIDENCE will over bend poles because you start storeing more energy in the pole as you become more efficient and do all things proper and it is now time to move to something that can utilize that energy! Remember the POLE Vault is not suppose to be an easy sport, if it is then you just might overstress the pole on upcoming vaults.
Oh by the way I broke 4 Skypoles (Brown) and one Catapole (Black). Only one of the poles, a brown Skypole, was under my weight! The expense of the $90.00 I had to cough up to replace it made me realize I needed to try harder on stiffer poles and guess what, I started jumping over my handgrip.
PS that is called Pole Vaulting, before I was pole-jumping!!
Funny, they cost me a lot more to make today than when I had to buy them 30 years ago!
