I used to do pretty much the same thing. If you watch his invert very closely, you will probably see that his hips stay below his shoulders through his swing until he tries to extend, and he might be extending at an angle from the pole instead of along the pole. If so, he needs to work on swinging long and low, swing to stay long and as one part instead of bending at the hips. Also he should be active using his arms to keep the pole moving forward during his swing, so that he pivits at the shoulder(not the hips or middle of the body). The whole idea is to swing his hips at least to parallel to the ground if not higher. Also a long strong swing can equal heavier and longer poles.
: My 15 year old son had a question, when he inverts his trail leg is above the end of the pole and he takes his right fist to his right theigh, and straightens his back, he is holding him self so close to the pole that the pole actualy "rakes" a sore spot across his left shin. He has tried arm bands on his shin area, wraping with tape, we were wondering if anyone had similar problem. He says when this happens he has closed off enough that the pole has hit his left wrist hard and his shin is realy sore. any suggestions
