: I pull myself to the pole as I vault instead of keeping my arms stright. Is there anything I can practice to get me to stop this?

: Oh, and if you have any tips on vaulting I would like to hear them.

Start by holding lower. much lower. like if the pole is in the box, as high as you can hold plus a hand grip or two. Try jumping from that hand grip and try to hit your step marker. When doing this, keep pressure on your arms. Remember you only have to do a 5 foot long jump from that hand hold to just land into the pit, and also that if you keep pressure on the pole, you won't land in the box, especially if your arms are out all the way. Yes the pole will be very stiff, but you should be able to 'jump over your hand grip' this means your center of gravity will be so much higher the where your holding the pole, the it won't be able to push you back very easily. Also, don't wuss out. The easiest way to do it is to just do it. Once you get it you'll see what I mean. When you get your arms out all the way, go back to your normal hand grip and step, except mabye hold a handgrip or tw lower.
