well.. actually, you'd rather jump a little less vertical than a long jump, forward momentum into the pole. the pole will bring you up, but, the higher you jump, the less depth you're getting, 17 degrees, if you wanna argue with me, then you're arguing with dr. phil mcginnis, (biomechanist for usatf pole vault), so, i'm merely a messenger
knee drive, what is the actual purpose of a knee drive, well, how 'bout if you're thinking about really driving your knee forward, what you're actually doing is getting a better push off the ground with your trail leg, that knee doesn't do anything as far as getting you better depth, hey, look at kory tarpenting's take-off..
all in all.. if you want a great take-off, the most important thing you can do is be the fastest vaulter out there, with, at take-off, the shoulders and hips perpendicular to the ground and the (for correct hand vaulting) left arm between the shoulders and the elbow in a vertical position in front of your left cheek bone, and a great slightly upward jump at takeoff.. you will acheive max grip height on max stiffy of a pole..
if you want more help or if you have any other questions or disputes i'd be happy to discuss them with anyone.. well.. maybe not lefty's, but, if you're nice enough to me i may consider
the skyin' pimp
