theres a few things that will help.

1. Get your arms up all the way when you plant the pole. thats both arms by the way.

2. Push the pole down below your hips while your in the air. The is called rowing, because your supposed to row the pole like an oar (with your arms straight)

3. knee drive!!! your arm cannot effectivally 'push' into the pole, all you can do is maintain pressure against the pole with it. this pressure in turn allows your body to put its momentum more easily into the pole. IE a stiff arm does not bend the pole but a fat rear or fast moving object can. The knee drive is a major part of driving into the pole.

4. jump. Activally leap from the ground, similar to a long jump, with with a little more vertical.

5. speed. this goes back to that momentum thing. speed is not ultra important, as long as you have a good drive, swing, plant, or something to that extent. physics says; the faster you go the more energy you can put into the pole, thus go higher. however, if you don't have the form to use that energy, your speed becomes a waste. this is probably the least important, but it still matters some.
