The weight rating on a pole isn't the only factor in how much a given vaulter will bend the pole. The length of the pole, the ability and technique of the vaulter, grip height and several other things can play a role in how much the pole will bend. As far as flex numbers go, larger number = easier to bend, but these numbers are not the same between brands of poles. Some manufacturers measure in centimeters, other in inches, so it can be confusing just looking at the flex numbers. The weight rating is a not a measure of how much the pole bends; it is a safety factor. You should never jump on a pole rated below your weight. I know it's not always a possibility at a public school with limited budget, but what you really need to do is get a pole that is rated at your weight with a larger flew number than the 160 that you have right now. You didn't mention the length of your poles but I'm guessing you probably need a shorter pole. I haven't used the Best Flex system at all, but I know there's been quite a bit of discussion about it on the board recently. Having never used it myself, I do not in any way endorse it personally, but the guy who developed it (Bruce Caldwell, I think) claims it will help you find the right length and flex pole to fit you. Like I said, I know it's not always possible to get a new pole, but that is really the only good solution for your situation. Maybe some of the other readers can be of more help, but I hope this is a good start at least. Good luck and vault safe.
