: WHY DOES POLEVAULTING HAVE SO MUCH CONTROL OVER OUR LIVES? AS COMPARED WITH OTHER SPORTS.
After reading your post on the community board I am glad to see that your keeping yourself occupied (but it just cant be the same). I think the reason for the love of the vault is the same as an addiction. Your typical junkie (man is this going to be a bad comparison) caves their drug of choice because of the way it makes them feel. The vault gives us a rush that we can get no where else so we think about it when we cant have it and look forward to our next vault injection. We are addicted to the vault for the rush (thus my screen name of P.V. Junkie). As for the commrodary (how the heck do you spell that word) vaulters all share a common bond - a facination with the vault. There is usually a certain type of personality that gravitates toward vaulting and while those personalities can also be seperated into about 3 groups we all are generally nice people who like to have lots of fun. The underlying factor here is the coachs out there. The good ones usually coach all the athletes in the area who seek help (not just the ones from their school). In addition, no matter how good you get, or how much you know about the vault, there is always somthing to be learned.
Just my 2 cents
Later and get well soon Steve
