Here is a message from Bruce from about a year ago - I am certain this pole is not a trainer: http://www.polevault.com/wwwvault/messages/9275.html

I started to reply to this by stating that these poles arn't twenty years old - I had a few red Maximas and have seen the HS Maximas (Fibersport, not flexsport). I purchased these poles when I graduated college - 1986. I think they went into production in the late 70's. I think Earl Bell cleared 19'2" or 19'3" on a Maxima.

Check out this picture - look at the wind sock - the old red Maxima has moved on to holding wind socks. It was a good pole.

As to what to do - I know MF athletics used to sell these poles. Perhaps you can track down an old catalog and bring it with you to meets - it will show the Maxima HS poles and it will show the fibersport trainer poles. I know this is a long shot. I used to have a briefcase full of old track material - I went to a couple of track conventions in the late 80's. I think I threw that stuff out a few years ago.

Good luck,
Duncan

PS:
Actually, I don't think the remark was directed at the official. Perhaps it would be best not to call an official a weasel if he was trying to do his job as best he could. But, if the guy wasn't the offical, didn't know what he was talking about, and didn't have the vaulters best interest in mind, then he was a weasel regardless of what he looked like - let the offical do the officiating. I'm 37 so it's too late for me.

: ### first of all derogatory remarks about an officials appearance at your age should be curtailed. It just leads to worse actions down the road.

: : Just jumped at regionals but some weasel lookin guy accused me of using a "training pole"
: : (a flexsport maxima HS 13.5 ft pole about 20 years old)

: ### just what did you do to check into this? I'd like to know how you determined it was NOT a training pole.

: : I checked into it and found out it was legal.
