FACT 1:
When moving to a longer pole same brand if you can hold the same distance from the top of each pole (that means you get into the pit)(IN THE GRIP AREA) and they are rated the same as in this case 13'3-150 &13'9"-150. They will be the same pole feeling as far as stiffness. For every 1" you move your handgrip down the pole will increase it’s feel approximately 1 lbs. stiffer (again you will have to be jumping over your hand grip which is in the grip area). (This varies based on the poles flex rating light, med or heavy compared)
FACT 2:
So if you move from a 13’3”-145 to a 13’9”-150 the pole will FEEL 5 lbs. stiffer plus any variance light to light or add 3-4 lbs. if light to heavy.
This is only a rule of thumb / approximation.
FACT 3:
Now this does not mean that if you weigh more than 150 lbs. you can use this to justify using a lighter weighted pole by holding lower. It does get stiffer but the thickness of the pole is still that of a 150-test pole. The wall of the pole is made for that strength only, lowering the handgrip and placing an athlete who is bigger on the pole can cause the pole to break.
FACT 4:
This rule of thumb only works when you are jumping over your handgrip and are able to get in to the pit with the pole. Try the POLE Calculator to see if this is the pole for you?

Disclaimer:
Suggestions are a guide only and other varibles may need to be presented.
A coach must be present at all times when vaulting or training.
You must follow the rules and use a pole rated at your weight or less important to proper vaulting.
Never use a pole that has been nicked, spiked or damaged. Do not flex that pole in the box.
Always vault on landing areas bigger than the rules require.
We recommend a landing area two feet longer than the length of pole you use.
Always use standard base protection pads on standards.
Do not use a take-off point more than 6 inches under the top hand at the point of take-off.
Do not bend the pole more than 90 degrees.
Always check to make sure the pole tip will protect the end of the pole.
Never jump on a cut off pole.
Vault Safe / Have Fun!

: Is it ok to move from a 13'3" 145# to a 13'9" 150# of the same brand pole? We have a 13'3" 150 but it makes a wrenching sound when it flex's. What does that mean? Would it be ok to move from a 13'3" 150# to a 13'9" 150#?

: thanks
